Early Years Log

Eve with our new bamboo shoe rack

Mama Bear's Nursery which Eve attends at The Bush, Totterdown on Wells Road has come up to speed with modern times and have set up children's development online.

I now receive emails during the day telling me if Eve has completed a particular action, or has made a new development in her learning.

It's really nice to receive these little notes during my day at work. I can also log on and see photos and videos. Yesterday when I collected Eve in the evening, one of the nursery staff rushed over to show me a video that she had taken of Eve naming all the shapes on a board.

Eve is really good at singing the alphabet song now. The only bit she hasn't quite mastered is 'L-M-N-O-P,' which is quite a tongue twister I guess. The rest of the letters she pronounces well.

This morning a flatpack shoe rack arrived. Our shoes seem to pile up downstairs, so I thought we had better move properly into the realm of 'family' and get a shoe rack. I found a nice bamboo one on Amazon fairly cheap with free delivery.

Daddy built the shoe rack with Eve's help this morning whilst I was on my way to work. He told me that they had a great time learning what screws, nuts and bolts are. Eve handed each item to Daddy as he asked for them during construction. I love to see Eve learning varied tasks.

My tomato crop is still going strong, well into October. I am so utterly thrilled each time I pick the tomatoes in the front garden. I tried to grow tomatoes for years at the back of our flat in Clifton, but it was always too windy and the plants didn't get enough sun. This is my first real year of success.

Our front garden is a sun-trap and I feel so grateful to be able to grow vegetables well there. Spending time nurturing a plant and then eating it's fruits is so satisfying. Real nourishment for the soul. We cut up the ones above and ate them with seabass on Sunday evening. That meal was such a treat.
