7 week Scan

Image shows our baby at the top with the yolk sac underneath

Today, Sam and I saw our baby for the first time on a scan at BCRM at Southmead Hospital.

We could see our baby's little heart flickering away. It was a magical moment. We are both feeling very happy. Sam's face was filled with wonder as we left the hospital. Having our scan on such a beautiful sunny day makes us feel very thankful and excited.

Baby Fergusson 7 weeks and 2  days old

Our due date has been confirmed as Monday 16th December 2013. If our little one is on time they will be a Sagittarius. If they are a bit late, they will be a Capricorn, just like me. Their Chinese astrological sign will be the Snake.

Thank you Tiki man!

Our lovely friend Jilly lent me her tiki prior to conception, which her brother had brought back from New Zealand. It has been suggested that this ornament is a fertility charm representing the human embryo, and that it should be worn only by women.

The shape is probably due to the fact that tiki were often made from adze blades.

Tiki or hei-tiki are most commonly made from nephrite, a stone related to jade and found in several places in New Zealand's South Island. There are traditional accounts for the creation of the stone which relate it to the children of Tangaroa. The tiki is unique to New Zealand and arguably the most archetypical Maori artifact, although the word tiki applied to fertility symbols is extremely common throughout polynesia.

Positive pregnancy test - Tuesday 9 April 2013

After waking up pretty early this morning, we were very thankful to see a positive result on the pregnancy test.  Sam and I felt incredibly lucky and happy as we phoned various family and friends to tell them the good news.

Not sure whether it was due to a slightly restless night, but after the phone calls Sam sat on the sofa looking rather pale and ill - the poor chap - think it was the shock!

Our baby's 7 week foetal heart beat scan is on Tuesday 30 April. Sam and I are very excited about the new part of our journey together with our baby...

When I got home from work this evening Sam had bought a bottle of fizz for him and Schloer for me with lots of tasty treats so that we could have a celebratory indoor picnic - so lovely!
